Archery and biking: Morning 1

After a meaningful communal tefillah in the Kibbutz Ketura Beit Knesset, we headed out to the desert where we had the chance to bike and practice the eastern art of archery. Our guide Oren explained to us the nuances of this practice, which uses the entire body to leverage the bow. Noa Mishell unleashed two perfect shots, smashing the balloons, far and away the best effort fo the morning. Students also biked near the kibbutz, learning about the date palms, the highest income for the kibbutz and the first “cash crop” in the region. The mahjool dates from the kibbutz are shipped around the world. It was both surprising and refreshing to learn that the border with Jordan has only a sign and a road to signify the change in countries; it is both the longest border in Israel and the only one that does not require fencing.
