Jerusalem’s Old City

Our trip is built to complement the previous trips to Israel that our students have had, ensuring students have multiple new experiences. This morning, we began early and headed up to the Temple Mount, the site of both the first and second Temples in Jerusalem and the site which Muslim tradition suggests the prophet Mohammed ascended to heaven. Our guide Josh gave us a terrific overview of the multiple layers of history on this holy real estate. Each time we pray, we position ourselves toward the site of the Holy of Holies in the Temple and we had the opportunity to be present near this space.

Following time on the Temple Mount, students either davened at the Egalitarian section of the Kotel (azarat Yisrael) or in the Kotel Plaza.  We then headed to the Church  of the Holy Sepulchre, the holiest location in Christianity, where Jesus is said to have been buried.

Overall, this morning we went to the first and second holiest locations in Judaism, the holiest in Christianity, and the third holiest in Islam. Only in Jerusalem!
